Eyes on Jesus in a Distracted World

Scripture
“But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’” — Matthew 14:30

Reflection
In a world full of noise, notifications, and nonstop headlines, it’s easy to lose focus. Just like Peter, we start with faith—stepping out of the boat, ready to walk in courage. But then life’s storms rise: bills to pay, family pressures, health concerns, or even the constant pull of social media. The winds of distraction shift our gaze, and suddenly fear begins to drown out faith.

Peter didn’t fail because the storm was too strong; he sank because his focus shifted. The same is true for us today. When our eyes are on Jesus, we find peace, even when the world feels chaotic. But when we fixate on the problems, we begin to sink into anxiety, doubt, and overwhelm.

Application
What has been stealing your focus lately? Is it fear about the future, endless scrolling, or trying to control everything on your own? Take a moment today to shift your gaze back to Jesus. Every time you catch yourself looking at the storm, whisper His name and invite Him back into your focus.

Prayer
Lord, I admit I often focus more on the storm than on You. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on Jesus in the middle of life’s distractions. Give me faith that looks past the waves and confidence that You are with me in every step. Amen.

Takeaway / Affirmation
“When I fix my eyes on Jesus, the storm cannot sink me.”
