When Showing Up Isn’t the Same as Opening Up

Scripture (NIV)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5 (NIV)
Real-Life Confession
Listen… sometimes we show up physically while our hearts are still sitting in the parking lot.
We attend the meeting.
We answer the text.
We go to church.
We smile in the family photo.
But deep down, there are locked doors, guarded places, and conversations we’re avoiding with God, others, or even ourselves.
Showing up is important. But showing up and being open are not always the same thing.
Truth Shift
Proverbs 3:5 doesn’t just say trust in the Lord.
It says trust in the Lord with all your heart.
That little word all quietly challenges us.
Because partial trust says:
“God, You can have this area, but I’m keeping control of that one.”
An open heart says:
“Lord, I don’t understand everything, but I’m willing to let You into every room.”
God isn’t impressed by perfect attendance. He’s after genuine surrender.
Personal Application
If you’ve been showing up lately while carrying walls around your heart, God isn’t condemning you.
He’s inviting you.
Inviting you to be honest.
Inviting you to stop performing.
Inviting you to let Him into the places you’ve been protecting.
You don’t have to force your heart open all at once.
Sometimes healing begins with one simple prayer:
“God, I’m here… and I want to be open.”
Holy Clapback
I refuse to mistake presence for surrender.
My heart is not hiding from the God who already knows it.
Throwback Prayer
Lord, thank You for meeting me even when I show up carrying walls. Help me trust You with every part of my heart—not just the comfortable parts. Give me courage to be honest, open, and fully present with You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Affirmation
I am opening my heart to God’s truth, presence, and guidance today.
Action Step
Take sixty quiet seconds today and ask:
“Lord, is there any place in my heart that’s present but not yet open?”
Then sit with whatever He lovingly reveals. 💛
